Gardenia is a shrub with exquisite creamy white, delicate, sweet fragrant flowers. The gardenia is rarely seen outside weddings today. The Gardenia is renowned for its romantic history.

History:

Gardenias originated in Eastern Asia in the western parts of China, Japan and Taiwan.

Believed to have been named after Alexander Garden, a physician in Charleston, South Carolina, during the colonial days who was a correspondent to the great Swedish botanist Linnaeus.

Women looked forward to the delicate, beauty, sweet fragrance of the gardenia.

Rod McLellan invented the gardenia corsage; this delightful flower's popularity soared.

Care and conditioning:

Gardenias have a short vase life. The flowers are delicate and go brown when touched. Ensure you handle the Gardenia by the stem to minimalise bruising the flower.

Health & wellbeing:

In the 21st century Gardenias are used in many day spa treatments, and extracts are used in perfumes and body products.
